Meeting minutes:Commandant Lamar called the meeting to order at 1900.
Colors were posted the Horn Lake JROTC followed by the pledge of allegiance and opening prayer offered by the Chaplain.
The meeting was open for official business at 1902 by the acting SAA.
Old Business
1. Membership: There were 15 members and guests in attendance. The Det currently has 57 members with 46 in good standing. Final nominations for 2012 Det officers and elections will be held in February.
2. Finance: balance to date is $2468, which includes $1110 for JROTC travel expenses ($500 donated by the Hattiesburg Det) and $820 for the 2012 Birthday celebration. Useable funds are $538.
3. Minutes from the December 6, 2011, meeting were approved as read. Minutes are posted within 5 days on the Det web page as well as timely, additional information of interest to the members: http://mcldet1078.mcldeptms.org
4. A notice of receipt was received from Palmer House for the donations in memory and honor of Buddy Hinson.
5. Honor guard: no activity this month. Looking for more members who can participate during the work week.
6. Chaplain report: No members are know to be in distress or need of assistance.
7. The Horn Lake JROTC cadets are training to compete in the Youth Physical Fitness Test in San Diego, CA in April, 2012. The request for airlift is still in progress; however, approximately $4000 is required for backup transportation.

Additional nominations and election of officers will be held at the February 7 meeting and installation of officers in March.
2. American Legion Post 10 in Lake Cormorant will host a spaghetti supper and silent auction at 1800 on Friday, January 27. Cost is $6.00 per plate.
3. Marine Corps new recruit Justin Merowitz, grandson of member George Arata, was introduced to the membership.
4. Guest Henry Ross was introduced to the membership.
Schedule of Upcoming Events
1. January 14, 2012: Breakfast at American Legion Post 134.
2. January 21, 2012: Department meeting in Meridian, MS.
3. January 27, 2012: Legion Post 10 spaghetti supper at 1800.
4. February 7, 2012: Det Officer nominations and election.
5. March 2012: SE Division Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC.
6. April 2012: Department Convention in Hattiesburg, MS.
7. May 11-13, 2012: Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall will be on display at the
Landers/Desoto Civic Center. Volunteers are needed.
6. August 2012: National Convention in Mobile.
The Chaplain offered the closing prayer and the meeting adjourned at 1930.

The next meeting is February 7, 2012 at 1900 in the Horn Lake High School MCJROTC facilities building. Horn Lake High School is located on Church Road between Horn Lake Road and Tulane Road. The MCJROTC building is located in the back of the high school by the three flag poles.
