Meeting minutes:Commandant Shook called the meeting to order with 20 members and guests in attendance.
The pledge of allegiance was led by the SAA and opening prayer was offered by the Chaplain.
The meeting was open for official business at 1902 by the SAA. Minutes from the July 6 meeting were approved as read.
Membership:
1. Website Det officer pictures will be taken next meeting. Red shirt and cover.
2. Financial report: The balance to date is $1877.30. Motion passed to pay annual PO box dues of $44.12. The report was accepted as read.
3. Earl Ward was nominated for the vacant office of Vice Commandant and elected by unanimous acclimation.
4. Life member John Edgecombe will be married this Saturday and will be moving to Illinois.
5. Past commandant Ken Morgan was elected American Legion Commander for District 2.
6. Ed Sanders, Det member, is President of the Memphis Leatherneck Motorcycle club which is not affiliated with the MCL, but a merger could be a good source of new members for both organizations.
Chaplain report:
1. Only good news, no one in need.
2. “The Army trains soldiers, the Marines train brothers.”
New Business:
1. Need volunteers for Marine Corps Birthday Ball planning committee.
2. No honor guard practice tonight.
For the Good of the Corps:
1. August 14: Breakfast at the Legion Post, 0800-0900. Desoto American Legion Post 10 breakfast is August 7. Post 10 is also raffling a 270 rifle, $10 a ticket, to be awarded October 26.
2. Reminder: Desoto School property is tobacco free. Do not jeopardize our welcome by abusing this policy. Set the example and make the right impression on these young men and women.
The Chaplain offered the closing prayer and the meeting adjourned at 1929.

The next meeting is September 7th at 1900 in the Horn Lake High School MCJROTC facilities building. Horn Lake High School is located on Church Road between Horn Lake Road and Tulane Road. The MCJROTC building is located in the back of the high school by the three flag poles.
